I appreciate the effort, and maybe it will be alright but I can't imagine that a browser-based version would feel or respond the same way as the desktop version.
How has Halflife and Quake fared with this? Also - seems like they would have their own servers to play on.

Very interesting! Still, I'm not sure I see it taking off, especially if they can't find a way to allow players to connect to standard servers and play against people playing on the desktop version.
Either way, it's great to see projects making use of the source code!

Quake:Live is still alive but I can't find any indication of the current player base.
Also I don't know about the current server situation but when I tried (long time ago), they were provided by Id.

Side note: the page didn't really tell me much other than they are doing quake live with ET.
