is there a way to make et.exe load something other than the default autoexec.cgf??
for some reason every time i close out of the game it changes my resolution back to 640Xwhateverthefuck..
i have it set to custom aspect ration 1600 by 900 in my cfg. thing is im sick of execing it ever damn time i start et..
what i have tried:
* overwrite autoexec.cfg with my current cfg file.
- would work if et.exe would not overwrite autoexec.cfg every time it closes..

\exec autoexec.cfg then a vid restart should only take 20 sec's or so ... Not sure how to fix but is 20 seconds really big deal?

Make sure all the autoexecs are changed. There's one in etmain and one in your silent folder. I think you might be able to change something in the etconfig.cfg (in your profiles folder). Hope that helps.

@shell multiply those 20 seconds across all the years of playing et.. lets say i open et 5 times a day for 5 years that is: 5 (opens of et) * 20 (seconds per open) * (365*5) (days in 5 years) .. thats like 50 hours of wasted time..
plus its just annoying having to do it every time..
@scopy done that already. for each mod i replaced autoexec.cfg with my cfg. problem is that whatever mod i am playing, when i close et, it overwrites that mods autoexec.cfg..

50 hours is only 0.11% of all hours in 5 year, or about 2 days wasted out of 1825, once again because of the wonders that is math, thats only 0.11%

In your autoexec.cfg simply execute your other config, autoexec will execute everytime, hence the name. The only thing I use my autoexec.cfg for is to execute my real config. For example, this is my autoexec.cfg.
exec Karl_binds.cfg
exec Karl_res.cfg

ill try that. but the problem is that the file keeps getting overwritten by et.exe
my guess before trying it, is that it will work the first time, then after i close and open again, it will be back to default..
nevertheless ill give it a go.

Do you have r_mode -1 set? to set a custom res. you need to have that!

why dont you just make your own cfg. and exec it in every server with a diff mod that you play on. should save as default cfg. does for me. anyways.

Isn't there a profile.cfg in your ET folder? I can't remember if that's the exact name, but there is a config file that ET itself generates when you use the System menu to change settings, and it's auto-loaded when you start ET. Try looking at the file properties and make sure it's not read-only or locked. That said, if ET is starting, I guess you're already running it as an administrator, but it's worth mentioning in case you aren't.
Have you tried putting *only* the video settings into your autoexec? Perhaps you have an error in that file and it's just not parsing/evaluating it all the way to the bottom.

thanks for all the help, but i have already tried all of the above.
@shell: ofcourse you have to have r_mode set to -1 to be able to play any custom aspect ration. i know this, and it is set in my cfg.
@wiz: that is what im trying to get away from in the first place. i dont want to exec my cfg every damn time i open et just to fix my resolution.. what i have done as a temporary fix, is set "n" to /vid_restart, so i just hit "n" as soon as i connect (only my resolution setting is overwritten when i exit)
@miller: it is a file called atutoexec.cfg. it is under the profile folder of the profofile you play with (for me its pumpkin). this is the file that gives me all this grief. it keeps overwriting itself when i exit et. and the only thing it overwrites, is the resolution setting.. (i think it actually turns r_mode back to 4.. and leaves my -1 value as "latched".. whatever tha fuck that means..)

autoexec.cfg should be in your etmain folder, not your profile folder.

upon further investigation, i actually have no autoexec.cfg. the files that i am talking about that get overwritten are etconfig.cfg and are in the profile folders.
ill try to add an autoexec.cfg to etmain and see what happens..
