I don't know too much about configs but I wanted to experiment a little bit to see how they worked so I went ahead and added my custom commands to a .cfg file I named autoexec.cfg (someone suggested I should do that, can't remember if it was Sin or Banana) and kept my various etconfig.cfg files open on Notepad++ to see what would happen.

It turns out ET automatically executes the commands found on autoexec.cfg and adds them to etconfig.cfg. This would be great if it wasn't for the fact that it only does it to the etconfig.cfg that's on /etmain/Profiles/YOURNAME/.

In order for a change you made to autoexec.cfg to be added to the etconfig.cfg files in your other mod folders, you still need to do /exec autoexec.cfg every time you make a change. Bummer! :-\

Maybe a good way to do it would be to add the 'exec autoexec.cfg' command to your respective mod's etconfig.cfg folders? Does anyone know if this would work?

I've always read that you only need one autoexec but I have one for each mod and got used to it.

Like you my autoexec never executes automatically. I have to /exec it for the changes to be taken into account, followed by a vid_restart for the bigger graphic changes.

Yeah it's true, you only need one autoexec.cfg. Mine lives on my /etmain/ folder and you can still exec it just fine while you're playing any other mod. No need to keep multiple copies. Smile

While we're on the subject of configs, does anyone know why the etmain folder has two etconfig.cfg files? It seems to me that the one that gets modified whenever you play is the one living in etmain/Profiles/YOURNAME/, not the one living in the root of the etmain folder.

Is the one living in etmain just supposed to be a 'factory default' config you can go back to if something goes haywire? Or does it actually serve a purpose?

I have no idea if this will help or not, all I know is I deleted my etconfig a long time ago and I don't have any issues with my autoexec.Though im not exactly making changes to it regularly either as I've had it so long I can't really make it any better for myself.

Although I did change my sniper scope to be activated only when button is being pushed the other day and that seemed to "autoexec" itself.

Interesting...would you be willing to make some trivial change and see if it autoexecs?
