Are his solo efforts just as good as Floyd's?

Different, but still good. He's more of a concept album guy, so there is more fluidity and more of an overall story in his albums - think "The Wall". You'll hear less great guitar riffs and solos (ala David Gilmour from Floyd) and more meaningful lyrics and relatable songs. The one I'm listening to now, "Pros & Cons..." is almost like a broadway play more than anything. It has background dialogue and characters. The entire album takes place in a dream, where each song starts at a different time in the early morning. For example "4:41 AM - Sexual Revolution". The next song is "4:47 AM - The Remains of our Love". As to the guitar work - you'll hear Eric Clapton playing lead guitar on this album Thumbs Up.

I've seen him in concert - it was fricken AWESOME! A good collection of Floyd hits and his solo stuff complete with amazing lightshows and the smell of indo in the air Cool.

I think if you're a true Floyd fan, you'd like him.

I have all his solos, all of Gilmours' and all of Syd Barrets' as well. Haven't got any Richard Wright yet, but I hear they're good as well.
