Widescreen. Cheapest deal with good reviews. I have 2 Asus VS247H-P 23.6-Inch monitors. Love them, but I bought my first one because its a good, trusted brand and it was on sale.

$150

My next monitor is going to be one of the 1440p korean PLS panel monitors. My cousin has this exact one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Perfect-Pixel-QNIX-QX2710-LED-Evolution-27-2560x1440-PLS-Monitor-Glossy-/140934439651

It is by far the best looking picture I have ever seen besides the 4k displays at Best Buy.

Well first you need to decide what's important to you. Is it resolution? Refresh rate (for higher frames per second)? Screen size?

For me I require a minimum of 1080p for my resolution and 24" for my screen size. If my budget allows for a higher refresh rate, I'll go for it. But for right now, I have 2 1080p 24" monitors that are both 60Hz (instead of 120Hz or 144Hz) and I'm perfectly happy with that. I'd love to be able to go to higher refresh rate monitors but I think the next thing for me is either 1440p or ultra-wide resolutions.

So figure out your budget and figure out what's important to you. FWIW, if you're going with 24" 1080p60 monitors, don't pay more than $150 for them.

1080p for a computer monitor nowadays is just bad advice jayd, her monitor now is probably 1080p. Its painful for me to play on any 1080 screen now.

@Sin: 1080p is not bad advice. That's the most used resolution at the moment, and it's probably the highest resolution her video card will be able to push on modern video games (not that she plays any of them). Also the monitor she uses now is a 4:3 piece of shit, nothing close to 1080p. I'm pretty sure 1440p would be overkill for both ET and whatever non-gaming things she does on her computer (Freecell, web browsing, etc.). It'd be a waste of money IMO.

@Winnie: I only mentioned 3 different numbers: resolution, refresh rate and screen size. I can't see how screen size and resolution can confuse you, and I already explained what refresh rate did. But anyway, here you go: A higher refresh rate means your monitor will be able to refresh itself more times in one second, thus allowing it to display more frames per second. So games that run at a frame rate high than 60FPS, such as 120FPS or 144FPS, will look smoother. Your ET probably runs at 125FPS so if you get a 120Hz monitor you'll definitely notice a difference between that and your current 60Hz monitor. Screen size is exactly that, the size of your monitor's screen. It's measured diagonally. And resolution is measurement of the amount of pixels your screen can display. The more pixels you have, the more space you have to work with, and generally the better games look. Here's an illustration of different resolutions, so you can get the idea:
