I posted this to Bunker's forums so I'll post here too. Opiate the hacker passed away of a drug overdose. I don't know anything else other than that. Only thought to pass along his passing. May he rest peacefully.

Either you get clean, get stuck in jail, or OD. He'd been in jail, & been "clean" a couple times. Guess an OD finally caught up with him.

He'd just added me on skype yesterday too.

I don't think I've even talked to the guy, but it's still very disheartening to hear that someone who has been part of the ET community for so long has passed away. I bet I could find him in some old scrim demos if I went and looked. I'll avoid attaching my seizure-inducing signature out of respect. I wonder if he would have ever expected that so many people would be thinking about him when he passed. RIP, fellow ET player.

Am I a complete asshole that I don't care he died? Especially from an OD. Every time I talked to the guy he always acted like a douche and lied about everything. And he hacked. I thought no one really liked him.

I wouldn't say I liked Opiate. In fact, I was kind of glad he was gone when he went to jail because he was bringing a bunch of jerks to the server and making our lives hell. I still think all the DDOS stuff he was either directly or indirectly responsible for, not to mention all the trolls he brought to our community. But from a pure human perspective, I'm sad for his friends and family, regardless of whether I liked the guy or not. I'm kind of with SP on this one, he's sort of an ET legend (infamous or not), so it is worth acknowledging this.

I never cared for him either but...

I have a drug addicted sibling. She is a train wreck. I know what kind of havoc that can cause for a family, so I can sympathize with his friends and family. None of us know what he was battling internally that may have been a causal factor in him choosing that path he did. RIP Opiate. I hope you find peace.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope your sibling is able to overcome whatever is troubling her and ultimately recover. It sounds like a very difficult situation for friends and family.

I can't say I liked him, nor did I trust him, but he was funny on TS the few times I heard him.

May he rest in peace.

Bak3d, sorry to hear about your sibling. I have a cousin who was deep in it 10 years ago. Heard horrible stories... These were sad times but she found the strength to get clean and I hope yours will do too.
