I agree with Belkin - last two routers I've had.

what Beck & Bak3d said.

I have a 26,000 port 'home' router. So every time I was buying one was for someone else.

Im thinking about getting a new router now as well (just got the freebie) Really sucks when any other wifi device is in use when im trying to play. Any n9000 seems to go for $150. Will i notice any difference normally tho? Like reduced ping?

That seems like a lot to play for a router.

dont spend more than 50. you can find plenty of good routers at walmart for less than 50 bucks.

my issue turned out to be a broken port on my verizon modem. i switched the port and my lag issues were fixed. i did also get a new netgear router so i could actually have a firewall up (since the freebe verizon one i got, does not handle port forwarding. its all or nothing firewall).

so my lag was solved by simply switching ports on my modem. i bought a router just for extra internet security essentially since before this i had absolutely no firewall (for about a 1 month period)

Cool pumpkin, glad you figured this out. This will be helpful for others who complain of "sudden lag", we'll have to remember this.

yep. this is such a simple fix that it could be tried in any situation where you might have doubt of the health of the port on the modem/router that you are wired to. i would assume that most people here have never switched that port Very Happy

I didn't see a cheaper multiuser one than that at best buy anyway (450 + 450) even a 450 + 300 was $100-120. Ill check out wallymart tho.

best buy is always going to be more expensive.. surprisingly, walmart has a better variety of routers to choose from than our local best buy..

What are these brick and mortar places you keep mentioning?

Link
but seriously. Buy online; I've only gotten one bad router out of all the ones I've bought; and that one was purchased from a retailer.

some of us dont have the patience to wait for something to come in the mail.

the price difference is not enough of a motivator to wait a week to get something through the mail..

I highly recommend the Tomato firmware if your router is supported.

I have had a horrible time with routers... I have purchased a belkin that died within 2 and a half months, bought a netgear that the wireless died within 1 month, and a few dlinks that i will never ever go back to them. I just recently bout a Cisco router for like 200 bucks for the multi users and speed(since we have 6 people on the network at all times and ps3 and lots of other things...) And it has been flawless for the past 6 months. I was never confident in the cisco stuff but i have to say this one has suprised me, and impressed me. Just my 2 cents.

On the topic tho glad you got your problem fixed so easily.
