A lot of mainstream artists just pump out a single with a bunch of shitty songs on there to fill the album - but there are plenty of brilliant bands and musicians who really embrace the idea that an album is a piece of art work in and of itself. Mostly, older 60's and 70's rock bands (the Beatles especially) really understood this and made it an art. There are some contemporary artists, like Beck in fact that still make brilliantly sounding albums where the songs are very distinct for whatever he was into at that time. I know that album listening is a rare thing in this day of $.99 cent downloads, and I've purchased my share of them too - but there's nothing like listening to Pink Floyd
The Wall from beginning to end, or
Dark Side of the Moon or
Animals. I just love the continuity from song to song. They don't make them like they used to :thumb
