LOL Hobbs - my wife got me a Weird Al compilation a few days ago - really takes me back LOL.
- for the most part, I'm listening to: Arcade Fire - Neon Bible album (See below) She & Him - Volume 1 I'm an album guy. Always have been, always will be. So I pretty much swap between the two right now - a bit of Marsmobil intermixed 8)

In stark contrast:
Metallica - Death Magnetic (album)

I'm very eclectic. I'm not really into "folk rock" as much as I'm into the undefinable genre of 'mellow' music. Plus, I've got the hots for Zooey :P

I win with this one.
Live and let Die - Paul McCartney Band on the Run - Paul McCartney What the man said - Paul McCartney

@Beck: I've turned into an album person recently as well. It has solved my shuffle addiction.
Current albums: A Dramatic Turn of Events - Dream Theater Heritage - Opeth

see for me, it's all about having a GOOD album where the songs are all similar and the sound flows from song to song. A lot of mainstream artists just pump out a single with a bunch of shitty songs on there to fill the album - but there are plenty of brilliant bands and musicians who really embrace the idea that an album is a piece of art work in and of itself. Mostly, older 60's and 70's rock bands (the Beatles especially) really understood this and made it an art. There are some contemporary artists, like Beck in fact that still make brilliantly sounding albums where the songs are very distinct for whatever he was into at that time. I know that album listening is a rare thing in this day of $.99 cent downloads, and I've purchased my share of them too - but there's nothing like listening to Pink Floyd The Wall from beginning to end, or Dark Side of the Moon or Animals. I just love the continuity from song to song. They don't make them like they used to :thumb

I listen to progressive metal, so the songs are designed at the album level. They are also intricate, and split up into parts much like symphonic music.
