I know if there is a fierce 1v1 going on up ahead, I will usually hold fire (this is the discipline I speak of) so that I don't risk hitting my teammate. Best case - you save some ammo, or you get the easy mop-up kill ;) - worst case, the guy gets a double kill and looks like a badass. This of course is highly dependent on circumstances - if you're in a tight hallway, this is critical - if you've got crossfire on the guy, go ahead and open up on him.

To add to that, if you are the person in the 1v1 and you know there's a teammate close to you that could help bring down this enemy, I would suggest you crouch if at all possible so the teammate can shoot at the person while not having to worry about hitting you. I do this all the time.

http://www.own3d.tv/watch/18534 EXAMPLE CLIP <<<<<<< READ BELOW

This is an example of knowing when to attack and defend. In this situation I was playing in a 3v3 against another team on the map braundorf. My two teammates had already went down for a full spawn and this left me all alone to defend the flag. Obviously, I knew they would most likely attack in a pair or all at the same time. So I stayed in the best choke point available which was the two hallways. This doesn't give me a huge advantage, but at least I might be able to get them to possibly bleed their teammates or they will not be able to shoot me while the other is in front of them strafing. So I only have to face them one at a time.

At the start of the clip I heard someone coming down the long hall towards the flag. I decided to be strangely agressive, possibly to surprise him, which is almost a lock at a win in a 1v1. I took him down fairly easy and grab the few packs that I had laid on the corner (JUST FOR THIS OCCASION  ). I knew I had only saw two of them in that one hall... "So where is the third?" I instantly turn to hide myself from the long hall and face the shorter hall looking towards the main courtyard, assuming that the third would try to sneak around me and grab the flag. Indeed, there he was. I took him down while he went for the flag just in time before he got inside the door. Then I knew that the 2nd guy down the long hall was all that was left. Since I had ran away from him to kill the third guy at main I knew he would probably think that if he quickly attacked me or assumed I was weak from his teammates fire that he would attempt to finish me off and grab flag. Indeed, he came at once.. (like I assumed) and I (AGAIN) have the advantage of allowing HIM to come to ME. Another fairly easy kill.

AWESOME video voRg. You got any other vids like this one with explanations as to what you are doing in them? Even though this one was uber short, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
