the best i can explain it is this

default scaling for me makes et take up the whole wide screen...

no scaling causes et to have black bars on my screen BUT be nice and clear...

this only applies for LCD wide screens really the blurry part as they cant run anything other then the default res with out being blurry... CRTs have no problems.

So if ur running widescreen im asking really, do you have black bars, or does et take up the whole screen...

unless their is some widescreen option im missing in et... i dont see 1680X1050.

Seems to me this is exactly like watching a Standard Format show or movie on a widescreen TV. Its not formatted to fit, so you get the black bars. If you "make" it fit, it will stretch the image to fit (and distort it). I don't think that ET itself is engineered to be "widescreen". I could be wrong, but I would think the game would need to render differently if it did. Just like "pan-and-scan" on TVs, where a widescreen format has been "zoomed in" to fit on a standard size TV, you lose part of the picture.

I used to play on a 17" WS with no bars, bigger heads though
On a 19" 4:3 now & getting a 24" + a 37 or 42" WS soon.

I play on a 22 inch wide screen at 1050 x 1680 with no bars.

You need to open up your etconfig.cfg and modify a few things.

1. seta r_customHeight 1050 seta r_customWidth 1680
2. add this to your config seta r_mode -1

Then execute your config and /vid_restart.
Should be good to go after that.

Should look like this

seta r_customwidth "1680"
seta r_customheight "1050"

Just find it in your config and change the resolution value. If you just add two new lines it wont work.

This next line is not in your normal default config so you have to add it manually

seta r_mode "-1"

That's how I have it in my config and it works fine.
