I believe this mail issue has been fixed. Is a bug in PHP and I used a workaround in consultation with the host manager to get it to work.

Its because people select to be notified of posts in a thread and we gave no SMTP mail host configured.

They restarted the server.

I've sent them an email. They didn't warn us of anything goign on. Probably related to all that lag some of us were getting maybe?
